Douglas County Overview
Douglas County DUI Court Information
The Douglas County District Court in Alexandria handles every DUI and DWI case in the county. It is part of the Seventh Judicial District, which also includes Becker, Benton, Clay, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Otter Tail, Stearns, Todd, and Wadena counties. All impaired driving arrests from Alexandria, Brandon, Carlos, and other Douglas County communities get filed at this courthouse.
Douglas County sits along Interstate 94 between the Twin Cities and Fargo. I-94 is one of the busiest highway corridors in the state, and law enforcement patrols it regularly for impaired drivers. Arrests on this stretch of highway, along with those at local events around the lakes, create a steady stream of DUI cases at the court.
Under Minnesota Statute 169A.20, operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of 0.08 or above is a crime. So is driving under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, cannabis products, or any combination. The Douglas County court records each of these cases from start to finish.

Looking Up Douglas County DUI Records
Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO) is the free tool for searching DUI cases in Douglas County. You can search by name, case number, or citation number. The results show charges, hearing dates, case status, and docket entries. Documents filed electronically after July 2015 are also viewable.
Not all cases appear in a name search. Pending DUI cases without a conviction require the case number. Older records may have limited detail online. If you run into trouble finding what you need, contact the courthouse. Staff can search their records and help you find the right file.
For a formal criminal history report, the BCA Criminal History Search is the appropriate tool. It costs $8 per name and matches through fingerprints for better accuracy. The Minnesota Judicial Branch records access page has more information about what is available online and what restrictions apply.
DUI Charge Degrees in Douglas County
Minnesota law classifies DWI offenses into four degrees. Douglas County courts apply the same standards as all other counties in the state.
Fourth-degree DWI is a misdemeanor under Statute 169A.27. No aggravating factors present. Third-degree under Statute 169A.26 is a gross misdemeanor with one aggravating factor. Aggravating factors include a prior DWI within ten years, a BAC of 0.16 or higher, a child under 16 in the vehicle, and refusing a chemical test. Two or more of these push the charge to second-degree.
First-degree DWI under Statute 169A.24 is a felony. It requires three or more qualified prior incidents within ten years or a previous felony DWI conviction. Maximum penalties reach seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine. All charge levels and outcomes are documented in Douglas County DUI records.
Douglas County DUI Arrests and License Actions
Minnesota's implied consent law under Statute 169A.51 applies to every traffic stop in Douglas County where an officer suspects impairment. By driving on public roads, you have already agreed to submit to chemical testing if there is probable cause. The officer reads an advisory before asking for the test.
Refusing the test is a crime and triggers harsher consequences. Under Statute 169A.52, a first-time refusal means one year of license revocation, compared to 90 days for a first-time test failure. The refusal is also an aggravating factor that can push the DWI charge to a higher degree. All of this ends up in the Douglas County DUI records.
Drivers who need to get back on the road can look into the ignition interlock program under Statute 171.306. The device blocks ignition at 0.02 BAC or above. Check your license status through the DVS online portal.
Note: License revocation records are maintained by the Department of Public Safety, not the Douglas County court. The court file will reference the administrative action but won't contain the full driving record.
