Searching Houston County DUI Records
Use Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO) to search Houston County DUI records from your computer. The system is free. No account needed. Pick Houston County from the court list, then search by name, case number, or citation number. You get charge details, hearing dates, docket entries, and case outcomes for DWI and other criminal traffic matters.
MCRO has some limits worth knowing about. Pending criminal cases where no conviction has been entered yet may not show up in a name search. You can still find them by case number if you have it. Records filed before July 2015 may have limited online access. For those older Houston County DUI records, you will likely need to call the courthouse or visit in person.
The BCA criminal history search is a statewide option. It costs $8 per name and uses fingerprint-linked records. It catches DWI cases from all 87 counties in Minnesota. If you want to see if someone has DUI history beyond just Houston County, the BCA check is the better tool. Call (651) 793-2400 for more details or run the search online.
Houston County DWI Laws and Penalties
DUI cases in Houston County are prosecuted under the same state laws that apply everywhere in Minnesota. Statute 169A.20 defines the offense. It is illegal to drive, operate, or be in physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. A BAC of 0.08 or above is per se illegal.
Minnesota's four-degree system determines the severity of the charge. A first DWI with no aggravating factors is fourth degree, a misdemeanor. One aggravating factor makes it third degree, a gross misdemeanor. Two or more push it to second degree. Aggravating factors include a BAC of 0.16 or more, a qualified prior DWI within ten years, and a child under 16 in the vehicle. First-degree DWI under Statute 169A.24 is a felony with up to seven years in prison.
The implied consent law under Statute 169A.52 means refusing a chemical test is a separate crime. A refusal can carry penalties as severe as, or more severe than, a failed test. The refusal shows up as an additional charge in the Houston County DUI case file.
Note: Houston County sits on the Iowa border, so some DUI stops near La Crescent or Caledonia may involve cross-state jurisdictional questions.
Houston County DUI Record Details
When you pull up a DUI case from Houston County, the file tells the whole story. The complaint describes the arrest. It lists who was driving, the charges, the BAC reading, and any aggravating factors. As the case moves through court, each filing gets added: motions, plea offers, hearing notes, and orders.
The final disposition is what most people are after. It shows if the defendant was found guilty, pled to a lesser charge, or had the case thrown out. Sentencing records are in there too. That means jail time, fines, probation terms, community service, and any ordered treatment programs. If the judge required an ignition interlock device under Statute 171.306, that shows up as well.
Houston County DUI records are public. Anyone can ask for them. You do not have to be involved in the case. The clerk provides plain or certified copies.

License Impact of Houston County DUI Arrests
A DUI arrest in Houston County affects your driving privileges through a process that is separate from the criminal case. The arresting officer sends notice to the Department of Public Safety, and your license faces revocation. Under Statute 171.178, getting your license back requires meeting specific conditions that depend on the offense severity and your driving history.
First-time offenders face a 90-day revocation period. A second offense within ten years means one year without a license. The DVS online portal lets you check your current license status and find out what steps are needed for reinstatement. Some drivers qualify for a limited license or the ignition interlock program while the revocation is in effect.
